Due to these enhanced security measures, it is important to anticipate thorough inspections of import documentation by customs officers. Incomplete or inaccurate documents are likely to be rejected, resulting in a hold placed on the accompanying shipments. Consequently, you will not be able to access your goods until authorized by customs, and additional demurrage charges may apply.
Furthermore, an increasing number of shipments entering the US undergo x-ray scanning and random physical inspections. These inspections can cause further delays in the customs clearance process, prolonging the period before you can access your shipment. As a result, additional demurrage or per diem charges may be incurred.
Currently, the average customs clearance timeframe ranges from 4 to 8 days from the arrival of the shipment.

LCL – Less than container load
If you consider yourself a minimalist or you plan to sell many of your household goods before moving, your possessions may not fill up an entire ocean container. In that case, you may be able to share the container with another shipper’s goods. Your possessions are separated inside the ocean container.
FCL –Full container load
If you have a full house and numerous possessions, you may benefit from hiring a full container. The benefits of using a full container are that you do not have to share with another shipper and you will likely have an easier time clearing customs when you reach the US. You and your family will also be the only ones capable of accessing the contents of the container.
